On thursday I went off with a guy who I met at the soccer game a couple of weeks ago to the project he helps out with called camino seguro (www.safepassage.org) which was a touching experience but yet at the same time draining. Basically the project was set up a few years ago by a Lady who came to visit the area in which a large community of people lived and worked in the garbage dumps scavenging for food and recyclable items so that they can get enough to survive the day. That was their life until Camino Seguro came about and through education they hope to provide the children a life outside of this vicious cycle, their story can be found on their website. The tour through the garbage dump in arguably the most dangerous part of Guatemala city left me speechless. It definitely puts alot of things into perspective.
The next day I had my last day of class with Flory, it was fun and as soon as it was getting easier it was time to finish up the classes. It has been a good 3 weeks in the school but I had decided that it was time to move on and perhaps help with Habitat for Humanity and picked up where I had left off and do some more salsa!
