Yesterday unfortunately we had to drag ourselves away from Paraty and go back to Rio de Janeiro, where lucky enough we would be able to lie on the beach again.

Paraty is in one word paradise. The coast is lined with about 300 beaches and beautiful little islands covered with palmtrees are visible from the coast. The town itself is a sleepy little town where a lot of colonial buildings made it to the 21st century, mostly churches ofcourse. The streets are still cobbled and it actually quite difficult to walk on them without breaking your ankles. It is the perfect place though to lazily walk through the historic centre browsing through shops with handicrafts and then slowly make your way to the beach and sip a freshly squeezed juice while admiring the view of the harbour and surrounding mountains.

But ofcourse all people come here for the beaches and so did we. So after spending the first afternoon exploring the town it was time to get down to business on the second day ie sunbathing and swimming. We walked to a beach slightly north of town as we were informed that the younger crowd hangs out there. On the beach there was enough space left to find ourselves a nice spot under a tree. Here we basked in the sun and when we got too hot, the sea was literally two meters away. Unbelievably this was our first real beach day of our holiday.

In the evening before dinner we had a beer on the beach admiring the stars. This felt soooo good! But the next day we left again to Rio as we wanted to spend the last two days of our holiday on Rio´s beaches and Roel also wants to attend a football match in Rio.

We will post our last update on our last day, 1 may 2003, so till then. We are going to enjoy the 35 degree sun here some more!
