Entry 3 of 4 | show all | print this entry

We woke up early and went and had breakfast in the hotel. The 'American Buffet' wasn't quite what I expected but the melon and sweet tasting toast was nice. We went out straight away and headed to 'Tianammen Square'. It was massive (Lili was dead nice, because our cameras were in the suitcases she let us use hers). There were guards everywhere and I laughed at the huge picture of Chairman Mao on the wall. We then went to the 'Forbidden City' where the emporer stayed and others could not go. The emporers lucky number was 9 and you have to pass through 9 gates to get to the palace. There are multiples of 9 everywhere you look and there is also only ever one chair in any building. Haha. Only the emporer was allowed to sit down! The chairs were boss though.
After the 'Forbidden City' we went for lunch and after that we went to the 'Summer Palace'. It was amazing. The lake surrounding it was really misty and the soft music made the atmosphere really tranquil. It felt like I was in China. We went on a boat ride across the lake and sailing past huge pagodas staring out onto the lake from our dragon shaped boat...it was fantastic.
When were were done with the 'Summer Palace' we went to a silk factory to see how silk was made. We went around the tour and even had a go at making silk quilts and then daddy got his wallet out lmao. I bought myself a lovely bag and a purse to match hehe. We waited for everyone to gather and then we went to the theatre. Richard and Carol opted out and chose to go bar hopping instead so so hopped off the bus to catch the subway to bar street hehe. I'm glad we didn't opt out. I cried all the way through it. It was the best thing I have ever seen. It was a kung fu show called 'Chun Yi' the legend of kung fu. It was the story of a young monk on his path the enlightenment. There were boys about 8 - 10 years old doing back flips onto their heads! I posed for a picture with one after the show and even bought the DVD!
We then went back to the hotel and everyone went to bed!!
