You can read a detailed history of the place in Wikipedia, but in summary an estimated 40-70,000 bodies were buried in the grounds of the chapel, and in the 1800's a half-blind monk decided to do some interior decorating with the bones, including a chandelier containing all the bones of the human body.
The place leaves you rather lost for words, but we managed to come up with "amazing", "oh wow" and "obscene' . The display is supposed to remind you of your mortality, but I found the whole place so far past bad taste it was back into good again! Definitely worth a visit.
Icecream in the shop opposite was pretty good too...
