Where I stayed
Arrived wet and cold about 4pm (well, I was wet & Lachlan was tired but smug about his dry boots and suit.) Collapsed into bed and slept till 9.
Then went out walking to try and find food - the place was deserted and the wet streets felt like a Cold War spy film. All echoing footsteps, clattering trams in distant streets and occassional furtive pedestrians scuttling from the rain. Finally stumbled across a Kebab stall, then topped it off with, wait for it, McDonalds Thick Shakes. The only place open. Honest! As we ordered a taxi pulled up and a couple in their late teens arrived for their McDonalds Date, straight from the stage of a Eurovision Song Contrest entry with spiky hair, jeans and more cool than I've seen since watching Grease. Quite a contrast to the bedraggled Roy lads.
Back at the hotel we looked up the weather forecast and it's rain for the rest of the week. There was serious discussion of a) just turning around and going home, b) diverting south (wet down there too), c) going north (too flat and boring) or d) staying in Olomouc forever. After a sleep we decided we would Reach Deep Inside Ourselves, Find the Strength to Carry On, and Press Forward towards Krakow. The only change of plan was to miss Auchwitz for this trip. Will probably regret it, but there you go. It would be hard enough on a sunny day, but in the rain it was too much to face.
