It took me about 90 minutes to get from Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok Airport (more interesting names to follow!) to my hotel (Renaissance Harbour View Hotel) based in the Wan Chai district of Hong Kong Island.
After quickly dumping my gear, I headed straight out to explore the city getting the 'Star Ferry' from Hong Kong Island to Kowloon.
Once across at Kowloon, I was able to take a nice sunsetting photograph from where I had just travelled - with views across Victoria Harbour
Kowloon itself is a vibrant, bustling place - home to many of the designer brands you'd see on 5th Avenue and on Bond Street and also to various specialist markets (electronics, fashion, jewellery, etc.).
Indeed, with reference to the fashion market which can be found in Kowloon, I saw my first Wanko store today! Market leaders in sunglasses no doubt!
A trip on the metro also throws up some interestingly named stops such as Mong Kok, Hung Hom and Jordan (there wasn't a Peter Andre - sadly I did look).
On my way back to Hong Kong Island - a light and music show lit up Victoria Harbour which was good (hundreds of people were watching it).
I managed to get lost on the final leg of the journey back to the hotel - another extra couple of miles walking. Tomorrow I will go on one of the organised tours and see how it compares with my ad-hoc tour.
My first impressions of Hong Kong are good :-)
