Well - here's my first blog.

I have added a video representation of my itinerary (which some of you will have seen) over the next weeks which will take me almost as far as the imaginary international date line.

I'm anticipating that the highlights of my trip will be:

1. The stunning scenery/nature of NZ's South Island (Franz Josef, Abel Tasman, Queenstown)
2. The Great Barrier Reef
3. Taking the Ghan from Darwin to Adelaide
4. My first trip on the Airbus A380 (airplane geek!)
5. Sydney - it looks a great city.

Having successfully hitched a lift from Chorley en-route to Hong Kong (but not worked out how to display photographs in portrait style on this blog yet!), I'm currently sat in the departure lounge waiting for my shuttle to Heathrow and pondering why it is that the bar in Manchester Airport's Terminal 3 is always heaving, no matter what time of day it is!

Where's Betty!
What happened to Manchester, at least if Man Utd Stadium isn't included, surely Betty pulling a pint in the Rovers should be included!

Have a great trip :-)

Cheers Neil. Not sure about Betty, more of a Emmerdale fan myself!

Re: As you are such a keen golfer
It beats Duxbury mate (I won't let you forget the birdie on the par 5 though)! A detour is a real possibility. Not sure I fancy the Dingo Den hole though. Bad enough with squirrels stealing my Titleists at Chorley Golf Club.

Big Brian has also suggested another detour courtesy of the STA Travel blog he is currently following @

You seem to be missing the key highlight off your list - a trip to Dave's bar in Singapore. Behave yourself!
