Back to the hotel we changed and headed into Manchester on the metro tram to have dinner in an Italian restaurant - entree, shared pizza and a bottle of Venetian cab sav. Very nice. Then tram home for a good nights sleep to end a great day.
Sunday was a sleep in and late breakfast before heading for the Imperial War Museum and back to the Lowry complex for lunch and check the mail and net. Then up to date with news we went back to Old Trafford to do the Museum and tour of the Stadium. This really completed a great experience and for anyone coming to Manchester I would recommend this tour even if you're not a United fan. A great way to spend a couple of hours and you can have lunch at the Red Cafe as well.
Our plans to go back into the city tonight changed which is just as well as the weather has closed in and we are having a taste of Manchester wind and rain. Staying in tonight and off back to Lincoln on the train tomorrow.
We woke to some lovely sunshine and enjoyed a lovely buffet breakfast in the Copthorne before checking out and heading into the city on the tram to Piccadilly station. There we left our case in the luggage facility and caught the free bus back up town for a look around and some last minute shopping. We strolled back and caught the 12.43 to Sheffield where we changed to the Lincoln train arriving there at 3.06 right on time. A few groceries later and we were on the 3.30 bus to Bucknall. The British trains were okay but noisy and cramped. Today's train to Lincoln was so cramped I could sit in the seat but my knees and lower legs were jammed in to the seat in front. I will not complain about airline economy again!! However it was a lovely weekend and one I will treasure for ever.
A quiet day today after yesterday's travel. Weather is cooler and we are expecting rain on Thursday. We have organised a car for our last week here and will pick it up on Friday when we go to Lincoln. it will allow us to explore a little further afield and a little easier now that the cycling weather has disappeared. It will also allow us to easily get to Lincoln on the day we leave as our train leaves at 8am and there is no bus that suits.
The house we have is very comfortable and we have found it very easy to settle in here and make ourselves at home. We hope Val and Vic are enjoying their holiday as much as we are.
We have finished booking our accommodation and have gone upmarket in HongKong for our last 3 nights before arriving in Perth on Oct 26. Looks like it will be damp today and little or no sun. Tomorrow we are going to Lincoln to see the Castle and Cathedral that we missed last time and then collect our car
Our last trip on the bus today and we head to Lincoln in the wet and cold to see the Castle and Cathedral. Both were well worth the visit and although the weather spoilt the castle a little the Cathedral was just superb. A magnificent structure dating back to just after the Norman Conquest - thoroughly enjoyed the experience - an awesome atmosphere and the photos struggle to do it justice. Definitely worth a visit. By the way the old jail in the Castle was used for the jail scenes in Downton Abbey. Apparently The Cathedral was used in the Da Vinci code as Westminister Abbey
Wet and cold we trudged down the hill looking for lunch. Found soup and roll in a pub 'the Witch and the Wardrobe' and the bonus was the 20/20 between NZ and Bangladesh was live. bonus!!
Then we got the car and headed for home at Bucknall before driving to Horsington to the ' Elder Tree Inn' for drinks and dinner again. This is our local and all are so friendly it is really a great atmosphere. Just about everyone seems to know each other.
A beautifully fine morning but the thermometer was hovering on or below 0
