Driving habits here are similar to Vietnam though speeds are much faster. Unlike Australia there seems to be an invisible central overtaking lane marked often by a solid yellow line. The passing technique is to get as close as possible to the vehicle in front without quite touching and then squeeze past without hitting any oncoming traffic. Drivers are very skilful in doing this manoeuvre
Since then we have been swimming in the pool, in the gym, shopping( more looking than buying) dining in the market restaurants. Also watching Olympics though most of this is repeats.
We had some rain yesterday(10/8) and it is cloudy again but that is normal for here. We are planning a boat cruise on the Ping river for tomorrow.
Our last day in Chiang Mai and after a lazy morning at the resort we wandered down to the river and had a very pleasant 2 hour cruise upstream on the Ping river. We went about 8 kms and had fresh fruit refreshments at a local farmhouse - big pigs, ducks, chickens and a huge variety of plants in a large traditional style farmhouse - wood and thatch construction with stone floor. Very interesting. Sunday evening went out for dinner again but this was in the middle of a thunderstorm, a bit wet indeed. We dined in the local Israeli restaurant.
Monday has begun fine and we are off to the airport to fly Bangkok Air to Bangkok and taxi transfer to Pattaya for our last week in Thailand.
Next report from Pattaya.
