Getting married is a huge step in anyone's life and it's one that I'm delighted to have taken. We always think that big events are supposed to be dramatic, demanding, or complicated, but this was wonderfully peaceful, relaxed and easy. In fact, the simplicity of it all still leaves me a little stunned.
There was a normal morning in class for me and in work for Michelle, a blinking emergence into the bright heat of a Guangdong lunchtime, a sushi lunch interrupted only by a congratulatory phone call from my parents, and then a quiet walk into the local registry office, pay 10 RMB, mark a form with the obligatory red ink fingerprint, and we walked out legally married. It sounds so unspectacular, but was a beautiful experience rounded off by an equally relaxed and enjoyable meal by the lake at Portofino.
So much has changed, and yet in so many ways nothing has changed. For now however, the only meaningful reflection on our beautiful day is to say thank you to my wife and congratulate us both!
