That's it, the end of a busy, often frenetic, school year. The students have been gone a week, exams are marked and things are quiet - well almost. The relative slow pace of the last few weeks has been a breeze and for the last 8 weeks I really have been on cruise control, getting the job done and finding it easier and easier to do it. Then, revision and exams have been a piece of cake, the hard yards having been put in a long way up the line.
The end should mean relief, relaxation, satisfaction and celebration. There's none of that now. I just want to go and have fun, but there is this huge fatigue settling on me. It's not mental, so much as physical. The brain has been slowly re-charging for the last couple of months, but the body has been pushed too. It's been non-stop all year, even when the working hours have been under control. There have been a couple of breaks, but no real recuperation time. That's the thing about this kind of teaching, there's no place to hide. Day-in-day out you're on the line, and even a bad hour or two are going to hurt what you're trying to do.
For now, I think I'm going to hide under the duvet and vegetate in front of the TV for a day or two! I deserve it.
