Somehow when you throw rugby supporters from all over the world together, you get this crazy party atmosphere that exceeds any combination of just two nations for an international fixture. The end of one bar doesn't seem to start or stop, the smell of alcohol is ubiquitous and the corporate booked bars are conspicuously empty by comparison with those with a street party going on outside. This is how Lan Kuai Fong looks to most who attend this party!
When you're not drinking yourself though, there's a limit to how much of this all makes sense as people start operating in parrallel universes. I'd also been to Hong Kong several times and never been to The Peak so I headed of in the ancient funicular railway going up at an impossibly steep angle to be treated by the fantastic night time views of Victoria Harbour. I was surprised to find a shopping mall at the top and even more surprised by the kindergarten at the top of the shopping mall. Those kids must have some wonderful views as they grow up and learn and can't be stuck for inspiration when it comes to art classes. Whilst up there I got the bug and learned a whole bunch of stuff about how to mess around with my camera - some of the results are just that. A mess!
Inevitably when I returned to the hotel for wonton noodle soup far better than that I get in London, I was exhausted, but then the jet lag kicked in and I didn't sleep until about 4am. It was still a good start to my holiday, but then Hong Kong always seems to be good.
