Show trip route
After leaving home at midday we make our way to Hull and P&O ferries terminal.
After leaving the car at Hull we embark and set sail at 6.30. After an evening meal in the restaurant, an evening entertainment on board and finally rocked to bed by gently rock of the waves (we hope !)
Leaving Harrogate at 2pm we made a fairly non eventful drive along the M62 to Hull in the watery spring sunshine.
Due to a heavy rain / sleet patch we crossed through I switched on the rear wiper on the back of the car
After stopping to fill up with fuel I found the rear wiper blade not there. Typical 3 days before in the annual MOT it failed on this item and they charged me for a replacement !!
Arriving at Terminal 1 we parked the car in an excessive charged multi story and made our way down to check in...... Only to find after a short queue to get our tickets that we should be at Terminal 2, which was 2 miles away..... groan !
As Donna has just said on Facebook "You wouldn't believe we were seasoned travellers !"
We nearly ended up in Rotterdam !
So 10 minutes later - after returning to the car, leave Terminal 1, drive to second car park and after passing Miss Hitler on passport control we finally boarded the correct ferry.
The boat seems deserted.. Where are they hiding. At present it looks like 2 staff members to every passenger !!
After been shown to our room a typical two bunk outside cupboard I went down to reception and bingo cabin upgrade available !!
So quick swap of decks and we now have a plush club class cabin complete with free fruit, glass of champagne in the piano cocktail bar, tea and coffee, tv and DVD and even white shop toiletries !!!
That's more like it !
Now having a relaxing calm down hour before we go up to the cocktail lounge....
A very pleasant drink in the moonlight bar complete with grand piano - pity there was no pianist !!!
For our evening meal the choice was a full buffet restaurant or the posh A la Carte.
We booked our self into the posh restaurant !!
The last time we ate in here the food was a bit too posh - langoustine etc etc
This time the food was more down to basic - gammon ham, eggs and chips and battered haddock and chips ! Strange when there was posh starters, silver service and ironed linen !
Anyway the meal, food and presentation was amazing - including a very nice bottle of rosť wine.
Now the strange costings. By eating in the A la carte instead of the buffet they knock off £33 off the bill, due to our pre-paid tickets. However due to a special spring menu (2 courses for £15 each) our bill came to £30 plus drinks. So they knocked the excess, the extra £3 off the bottle of wine !!!
If we had been in the buffet restaurant we would have had to pay for the bottle of wine in full....
That can't be right, posh meal in A la Carte for cheaper than a buffet restaurant !!!
Now it's time to hit the evening entertainment... A live show and the highlight of the evening at 9.45 - live bingo ! (can't wait for the Bingo !!!)
Well we were too late for the bingo as ships clocks had moved forward by an hour and we were still enjoying the restaurant - what a shame !
We sat for a while listening to the live musician strumming (murdering) away on his guitar with female backup singer in the background dancing like she was having a fit but with three feet !!!
I thought there was supposed to be talent on board cruise ships ! Maybe its out of season and they use class Z celebrity's !!!
Finally retired to bed at 1am....
