Leaving the delights of Florence behind we travel in our trusty car to Siena a beautiful Hill Top town for lunch before travelling further on to Pisa and the famous leaning tower
Driving out of Florence was a nightmare, anyone who knows Florence knows that the streets are very narrow (some just wide enough for the car ) some of them pedestrian only and a lot one way . After following the sat nav. (Hopeless as it tried to take us down blocked streets ) we eventually after 15 minutes driving ended back at where we started. !!!! Aaaarrrggghhh !!!
So another try and finally we ended up on the motorway to Sienna.
The roads are not good here, junctions with traffic lights you can't see, 2 lane motorways barely wide neigh for two cars to pass and pit holes to make any uk road proud .
Sienna was amazing, small winding streets with a main square that is used as a race track for horses, all over town huge gates were seen on every street corner to block passageways.
Leaving Sienna behind we turned off the motorway and travelled across the countryside towards Pisa... This part of Italy is stunning.
Early evening saw is arrive in Pisa. I think a lot of people have said without the tower there is not a great deal here. We wandered the streets. (Without seeing the tower - that is for tomorrow) and after Venice and Florence it's rather scruffy, uninteresting buildings , a lot of graffiti and rather plain. We found a small square off the Main Street that seemed to have a number of Indian restaurants in but chose an Italian one, which turned out to be amazing, we sat out in the square as the light faded and ate our evening meal over 2 1/2 hours. Amazing flavours and presentation.
Our Italy experience now nearly over we went back to our rather scruffy (4 star hotel) and look forward to tomorrow
I think that the hotel system needs revamping - the difference between our 4 star in Florence which was amazing to this one with Basil fawlty at the desk there is no comparison
Yesterday think carpets in the corridors today scruffy in painted walls, yesterday shown to our rooms with bags appearing later , today "your on the thirds floor!"
New rating needed I think. !!
