The dog asks what on earth are you doing getting up at 4am, but as always the tail is wagging and happy to see us.

Wandering why we are getting up and not allowing it to get into bed !!

A quick 15 minute turnaround and we depart for Leeds Bradford airport, Zoe sitting in the hall wagging its tail... No doubt 5 minutes later it will be in bed with Helen !

A chilly but sunny morning at the airport sees us lose our sun cream from the hand luggage as although its only around 20ml it's in a 200ml container !!!!

With the premier lounge apparently full (actually it was empty !!!) we fought our way through the new layout airport lounge to find a seat amongst all the shell suit wearing clientele travelling to Malaga !!

After a £9 sausage sandwich for breakfast, lovely as it was, our flight to Nice is called and we make our way with 300 others all hopeful of landing in just over two hours in glorious sunshine.

After an uneventful flight apart from the obligatory screaming small 3 year old with parents who did not seem to care, we are now on the Tarmac of Nice airport... The old town and a glass of wine here we come !

Caught the bus down the sea front and dropped the bags off at our hotel together with our jumpers and in short sleeves headed straight down to the sea front and sat at the Opera Plage cafe right on the sea.

The weather officially 19 degrees but feels a lot warmer, although for some strange reason my iPhone app says it is now throwing it down with rain. That's strange as I can't see a cloud in the sky here !! Compare my photo's with the iPhone app photo !!

After a couple of beers and a couple glasses of wine we are now totally refreshed and chilled. Lunch consisted of an Opera and nicoise salads.

A couple of hours later after doing the typical French thing - the long lunch, we started to wander towards the flower market, which by now was being transformed into the largest street cafe you have ever seen !

A quick diversion from the old town saw us climb up to the top of the hill to the castle and the cascade... - why are all castles and waterfalls at the top of hills, especially when it's boiling hot !!

The plus side was the cool water splashing from the waterfall, once we did actually reach it.

Then down 100's of steps back down to the sea front again.

It's now 3.15 and we are sat on a stone wall in the old town whilst Donna is applying pansements to her feet. Those who are French intellectuals will know why and what for !!!

Now yesterday when I spoke with Helen if there was anything she wanted from France the answer - a palm tree !!! Well I have been racking my brains on how to smuggle one onto Jet 2 on the way home, so sorry guess what - it's going to have to be chocolate !!

An hour later and 4.15 sees us finally collapse onto our bed in our hotel for a short rest after spending the last hour walking round every shop in the old town, stopping of course for that obligatory ice cream and waffle - well you have to don't you !!

Now we are cursing that official in Leeds/Bradford airport who took our sun cream, both me and Donna look slightly red !!! Mmmm - next time can he confiscate something else like a jumper or raincoat !!

So out on the street again and with an increase in temperature we found a small cafe and I ordered a beer and we sat outside on the pavement watching the world go by (under the sun canopy). Now when was the last time in the UK I ordered a beer and received a plate of tapas !!!! (See picture)

Bliss..... And the tapas was free .... We could not believe it, pity the pint was 6 euro's !!

This evening we visited l'Ecurie restaurant. We tried the one we brought the staff to, but it was full and could not fit us in until 9pm.

After a couple of non starters we found this one and what an amazing find.

With a starter of goats cheese salad with pesto salad we were on a high !!

With ravioli and donnas typical spaghetti bolognaise the main course followed with chew a my shoe (Zoe's favourite pudding !) - tiramisu

It's now 10.00 and I am still sitting outside the cafe at our table, it's pitch black and still in a t-shirt - unbelievable !!!!

Full of evening meal (and a few drinks, Kia, bottle of wine and limoncello) we had a quick walk down to the sea before walking home to our hotel

So 19 hours after we climbed out of bed, we climb back in after "making most of our day"

P.s. not that we have drunk a bit today but I claim no responsibility for the upside down video footage - sorry Judith did you have to turn the monitor upside down. !
