Pre blog

This morning the tour finishes after breakfast and the group departs, for us we have a few more days in Hong Kong

After slumming it on D class trains and rough rural village hits and 1-2 star hotels we today transfer to a five star hotel with an apartment with views overlooking Hong Kong harbour

Helen will be pleased as there is a posh outdoor swimming pool with infinity view accross the harbour.

Today is all about relaxation, a few drinks around the pool watching the view, soaking up the sun.

Our room is a harbour view room in the harbour plaza north point hotel

6.30 am and the alarm set off and half an hour later weary travellers assembled in the foyer and Robert took us to a local Hong Kong restaurant in which the over 75 population of Hong Kong seemed to have assembled. With bingo style menu's (see picture) Robert ordered an assorted meal of dumplings. (Dim sum)

"The napkin tasted better" Mark said with a mouthful of what looked like dishcloth !!!

An hour later and after goodbyes Robin, Donna & Helen, now on their own were day in Kowloon park, a shady water featured park in the centre of busy Kowloon. With strange sounds emitting from the locals as they did their Thai Chi it was certainly not the Valley Gardens, but nevertheless relaxing and cool. Even the flamingo's looked cool !

Hong Kong is certainly expensive at British prices but with weather like today, clear blue sky's and 35 degrees its much more pleasant.

Hong Kong is weird all over china I have had 3G Internet access, Hong Kong - none !!! China - water for sale everywhere - Hong Kong - none !! And the crowning straw I could not change £ sterling into Hong Kong $ whereas every corner you could in china !! Money exchange places are far cheaper than banks in Hong Kong !

HSBC even tried to charge me $100 HK which is around £10 plus a really bad exchange rate.... Alistair you must have a word with someone !!!

After a tube ride across town we arrived at our new hotel. Another upgrade ..... From two double rooms to a master suite on the top floor

With a full kitchen, sitting and dining rooms, large on suite double bedroom for us and a connecting door to another twin room complete with its own bathroom and kitchen and all with large panoramic windows over the harbour and beyond to Kowloon !! Lucky us !!

After refreshing in a fantastic shower room and a posh lunch in the hotel (Helen having the largest hotdog you have ever seen !!!) we went for a swim in the swimming pool on the roof, although not heated the water temperature was a cool 29 degrees... Bliss !!! Now this is the life after 3 weeks of 2-3 star hotels !!! A nice relaxing afternoon.

Early evening saw us take the tube down to central Hong Kong and we proceeded to travel up the famous midway escalators ... An escalator that travels from the harbour up through the city for 800 metres !!!!

We stopped off at soho and found an Italian restaurant and ate a mixed platter of Italian salamis, tomato and mozerello salad, breads with oil and olives - not Chinese then !!

What a different but amazing day....
