After the overnight train ride we arrive in Xi'an. Xi'an was the imperial center of China for 2,000 years. Here we find the Terracotta Warriors, who were discovered by farmers digging a well in 1976
We stay for 2 nights in a mens youth hostel.
Well that was not bad - fell to sleep at around 11.30 to the flashes of lightening and claps of thunder and slept all the way through to 7am
It's a gloriously sunny day outside and the scenery has changed to more rural
At 10.30 am we arrived at x'ian and within 10 minutes taken to our new hostel. An immaculate youth hostel - great bar and restaurant area all decked out in ancient Chinese style. After a quick lunch we went on a walking tour of the local Muslim quarter... Strange foods including pigs trotters and plenty of small stalls selling everything under the sun !
An hour later after a quick bus ride to the east gate of town we jumped on bikes and cycled 10 out of the 14 km around the city walls - very hot today at 38 degrees but a little less humid. Very satisfying after such a long cycle we arrived at the south gate (anticlockwise) after doing 3/4 of the walls
Evening meal to a local Chinese restaurant saw the following translations on the menu
Bamboo fungus scrambled eggs in soil
Pancake secret makes sauce
The fresh bacteria assorted pot
Acid beans fleshy foam
Meat modification saozi pot
Burn the croaker
Great choices.. Which would you go for ?
Afterwards a quick walk around the streets (still 35 degrees at 11pm !!) and saw the drum tower in the centre of town all lit up
Tomorrow the terracotta warriors ... It's all go - we need a holiday !!
