After hunting around Seminyak for an authentic Indonesian dinner, my Aussie friend Andy and I finally found Warung Bonita, conservatively described in the Lonely Planet guide as 'a cute little place with tables under the trees'. We found much more than that! After looking around for a table, I noticed that the restaurant was full of men. The waiter was charming and sat us by a large dance floor area.
'Ah we have a drag... I mean cabaret show on tonight!' he announced with a smile.
We ordered standard Indonesian fare of chicken curry in coconut and gado gado, deliciously consumed. As I looked up from my meal, I saw a vision in while glide into the restaurant and start kissing, hugging and shaking all the clients' hands. He was dressed in a long flowing bussle-less 1900s dress, long sleeves and a shawl, buttoned to the neck topped off with an artfully designed lacy bonnet wrapped in white gossamer
We might have heard her cry, 'I'm a lady!'.
The waiter told us this was Bonita, the owner, who eventually made his way around to us. He was a delicate Balinese man, no makeup but comfortable in his guise. He told us he also owned Warung Sulawesi up the road and that the cabaret show was on every night. At last the music started and he headed off to sit at another table.
On came the dancing 'girls' in long white stiletto-heeled Kylie boots, glittery brief costumes with traditional Balinese headdress shimmying to Madonna. It was certainly an eclectic mix of styles! Slave boys danced with the Egyptian goddess, whose wings got stuck ending in a serious wardrobe malfunction! She made a fabulous recovery to huge applause and told us next week would be even better.

I'm a Lady!
Gosh what a giggle, girl. Was fretting needlessly due to the apparent blogless trend of your trip. But now I'm sated - for a while. Keep em coming, Robin. FABULOUS! xox,g
