Flag of Nicaragua  ,

Iīve spent a fair while walking around Leon in the last week... itīs a nice town but the heat can really tire you out. Iīve especially been interested in the murals of Nicaraguaīs and Leonīs history, and the places where significant events have occurred, particularly leading up to the Revolution here. We found a former Sandinista fighter who took us on a three hour tour of town, and it was excellent to get the insights of someone who knows and has lived through a lot of the history here. He showed us the picture in the Gallery of heroes and martyrs of his brother who died at age 17 and it really helped emphasise the fact that this is real history with direct implications for the Nicaraguan people now, not merely events occuring on the page of a book. The tour was entirely in Spanish so the four of us had a bit of trouble sometimes but overall much was learnt.
The captions of the photos should explain some of Leon, and maybe iīll write some more here later...
