So today we woke up early to catch the sunrise but unfortunately it occurred just around the treeline from our vista. What a bummer! We still got the early start on the day though which is always a good thing. But the going was slow.
Finally PA is living up to it's reputation with the rocks. They were so ubiquitous and oh so painful. My pace dropped down to slothlike speeds and every step was a battle to not break my ankles. We still have a few days left of this so I'm a bit worried
After lunch I hike the difficult but fun knife edge, a section of trail that is slanted rock at a 45 degree angle and with drops on both sides. My legs felt like jello when I sat down safely in the woods below.
Pounding on rocks sort of defines the rest of the 22 mi day. We also get to do an exciting .5 mi trip downhill for water because the springs are starting to dry up. Not a good omen.
We approach town in the evening and get a hitch with no problem. The guy drives us right to the police station where we check in and head to the hostel. It's not quite as cool as it sounds, but it does sound cool right?
Ate dinner at the Palmerton Hotel and caught up on the sports action. A real indicator of our disconnect was that the Stanley Cup finals game was on and we watched intently, only to realize after it had ended that it was a replay. Oh well, I strongly dislike both teams anyway. Haha. Good to see hockey though.
I guess well have to get moving early tomorrow... Big cliff face to climb and a long day to our next stay. I'm definitely being worn to the ground just like my shoes so I'll need to spend some down time (and buy new shoes I think) in the next town.
Keep the awesome comments coming. While they don't keep me out of jail, they do keep me out of the nuthouse.
