Public service announcement: if you see a pile of raisinets in the woods, do not eat them...they are not trail magic, and taste very similar to deer droppings.

Woke up this morning to DAWN! Hadn't seen that in a while. It was quite cold though, water took a long time to heat and of course the boots were pretty stiff to put on. However there is something glorious in watching the sunlight come streaming into your camp for the first
time in days.

With a glad heart and numb feet I hit the trail, and wear my fleece all the way until lunchtime. The hike today was actually super low key. All that complaining I did about ridgewalking yesterday, well today we ridgewalked but without the rocks and the constant PUDs. I'll give someone a snickers if they can tell us what a PUD is!

Lunch was on a cliff overlooking I-77. Weird to hear and see all the heavy traffic. Amazing to think those people can drive to Maine in a day.

This morning there was another empty cooler... What a swing of emotions that is. I saw it and literally yelled "yes" ran up to it, opened the lid already visualizing what might be inside. It took
several seconds to actually process that it was just an empty cooler of water frozen into an ice block.

After lunch the only water source for about 10 miles on the trail was a little creek that was supiciously running from the direction of the highway. I treated it but my stomach feels kind of funny so I'm hoping there wasn't too much oil and antifreeze in it. Not sure if iodine does much against that!

Got to shelter just an hour or so before sunset. Did the usual camp chores: fetching water, signing the shelter registry, unpacking my bag, cooking dinner, and eating. Ok eating is not a chore, it's probably the only thing fun out here besides sleep. Ok, not true, I am
having a little fun hiking :)

Got a text from my friend chris who updates me on the red wings ( much thanks to him) to let me know they won game 7! The excitement of that news propelled me through many of today's uphill climbs. Go wings!!

Also, it sounds like maybe memorial day weekend will be "hike with donner" weekend. I'd love to do this all at the same time because obviously I'll have to slow down a bit for everyone. If you are interested, let me know and we'll try to work something out. I should be somewhere around MD or PA then.

Need to get a good nights sleep tonight after a long nearly 24 mi day. ( I believe my longest yet) I hope everyone is doing well. Keep the comments coming! They absolutely make my day.

OK... a PUD... is either pointless ups and downs (i think this is right) or post urinary drip (let's hope not :-)
I'll be waiting in pennsylvania for my snickers!!! ha ha
happy hiking!

We think PUDs are pretty uncleanly dudes. :) I went to a new dr., and she had a picture of the Smokie Mountains in the exam room. We started talking about the kids trip there with you, your Mom & Dad, and you hiking the trail. We talked about you for 10 mins! She goes to the Smokies every year and wants to retire there. You have another major fan!
Keep on hiking the hike. You are so amazing! Sure wish I could provide some majic on your trail. Sending good vibes, anyway!
Love, Yvie
