Today was an easy day, perhaps deserved, but I'm not so sure. Hiked 4 miles to Winding Stair Gap and found... Surprise, trail magic! A church group was handing out moon pies and chips, with hot chocolate to drink! Then we waited around until a scheduled shuttle arrived to town at about 11:30.
In town we were very busy. Checked in to the budget motel, then peeled off the boots and walked to "mi casa" deliciousness Mexican style for lunch. Got a huge plate of tacos, rice, burritos, enchilada, etc.
Then went to the store, outfitter, and post office. All for free on the hotels shuttle. The owner, Ron Haven, is really great to hikers, cheapest places and free shuttles
At night 6 of us grab a shuttle to see Alice in Wonderland in 3D. Amazingly it is 3 guys 3 girls... Which is extremely unusual on the trail. (and off the trail I'm almost always hanging out with mostly girls) the movie is pretty good and a real assault on the senses after a week and a half in the woods!!
Trying to rest the feet a bit laying in bed after everyone has gone to bed. We are all resupplied to get us most of the way to the Smokies.
Blisters healed a bit in town today, but you'll love this: walking around in crocs gave me new blisters in new places! (gah) I just want to feel good! My lungs can handle any mtn, but the legs are dying. I'm just wondering how great it would be to not have blisters. People are trying to give me the trail name "gangrene"
Found some awesome stuff in the hiker free box here, should be useful! Here's to happy trails and good mileage to Fontana Dam! Hope all is well out there! I feel connected with you all, being here in town for the night. Clearly the woods are now home!
