Beautiful day for a hike! Started a little late but got our first amazing view about a mile in, just felt like you could see to the ocean! We are heading north again after going south (on purpose!!) for nearly a whole day.
At midday we climbed the tough Albert Mtn which has a fire tower on top, took some nice pics and squinted to try to see the Smokies, but that is just too far off still.
The afternoon sucked a bit, just a long meandering trail that never really went up or down too much. It was a real trudge to finish the 12 total miles. We did however pass the 100 mile mark today!!!
At the shelter we got wind that there was trail magic just .1 mile up the trail so we ditched the pack and RAN to the hot dogs, carrots, little debbies, chips, and coke
We had a great fire here at the shelter, telling stories etc. The same group seems to have migrated along for about 3 nights now. I'm sleeping in the shelter next to Caribou, who is deaf, and his dog Yolo who is kind of snuggled between us.
Blisters are still pretty awful. I thought you could just " walk through them" and " man up" but then people started talking about gangrene and stuff. I'm a little nervous so I'm really pouring on
sanitized and anti bacterial ointment and bandaids. Any doctors out there feel free to weigh in!
Other then ankles and below, I feel great. I feel so alive out here in the woods, and 99% of the other hikers are just total chill people.
Going in to town tomorrow morning ( Franklin, NC) to resupply and take
my boots off for a while. Hopefully I'll hit the trail again on Friday. Maybe after an all you can eat :)
Sleep tight don't let the bears bite!
