Last night sucked. Cold that you could barely move around for 5 without going numb. I managed to boil water for a hot meal of cheesy mashed potatoes and bacon bits. It really helped me survive.

Had to pee in the middle of the night and I'm not comfortable yet peeing in a nalgene. So I got up and trudged through the snow in my crocs. Brrr

Morning was cold and cloudy, trying to stay warm while breaking camp is a real challenge. Luckily I know to sleep with the important items IN my bag so I don't wake up with frozen contacts, water, and fuel. I could barely force my feet into my boots cause they were frozen.

After about a mile through the snow I could feel my feet and hands again. We "huffed" out 6 miles before noon including standing Indian Mtn. Then suddenly the weather broke! Sun was out and about half an hour later all the snow was nearly melted and we were in short sleeves.

The rest of the day was easy, pretty flat terrain and beautiful weather. Got to camp at 3 and thought about pushing on but stayed here at the shelter. I have to slow down the pace because I plan to meet my folks at Fontana Dam before the Smokies and don't want to get there too early. Apparently there is a huge backup before the park because it isn't really passable yet. I hope that clears before we get there.

Hope all is well out there. Today felt like college fun, somebody is smoking grass on the shelter roof and I had mac and cheese ( with tuna) for dinner.
Take care.

Put your boots in a plastic bag and the sleep with them in your sleeping bag, down at the bottom. No more frozen boots in the morning!
