Screwed up on the way down and took the wrong route and lost my hiking buddy. I was kinda concerned but he bumped into some ROTC kids on patrol and he made it back fine. I felt guilty continuing on the trail, but I didn't want to yell more than 20 minutes. In the marines I guess I would have gone after him, but this is JUST the AT.
Free hamburgers at Neel's Gap! Word and rumor of food travels fast out here, and we gobbled down a few burgers
from an "expert." ( chain Smoking Know-it-all)
Everyone had these great stories about him saving you 6 lbs and stuff, but I am too prepared a hiker and he couldn't really help me. ( granted I could spend 400 dollars to trim off 5 lbs, but I've been unemployed for half a year!) I did shell out the money for some new trekking poles (Leki's) and boy that already seems to be worth it. They are German so that is even cooler. they come with a lifetime guarantee which I plan to someday take advantage of!
Hike out of Neel's Gap was easy with only a couple mountains. Decided to call it a night near Cowrock Mtn. I'm camping for the first time, and was sentimental to find some lake Michigan sand in my tent :) Beautiful stars are out and the tiniest of crescent moons. We made a little campfire (Sherlock, Tatoos, and I) and it is just dying down so time for bed.
Hope all is well, starting to miss my outside life ( moms homecooked dinners!?)
Thanks for all the comments, I definitely don't feel like I'm walking
