we drove along the seafront which is actually a continuation of small villages from point vernon to urangan pier which also includes an area called torquay..we parked in urangan to have a look at the pier and marina... we stopped for our next roast dinner on this trip 5th i think.!! and then headed on to Bundaberg.
the two reasons for visiting bundaberg are the rum distillery , which was closed on a sunday...grrrrrrr... and the giant turtle sanctuary at mon repos, the most important turtle breeding beach in australia... we were in fact 3 weeks too late to see the baby turtles hatch and scurry from their nest in the sand to the water and swim away to return in 30 years..however the visitor centre was very interesting and it was a great feeling to actually walk on the beach where the turtles had been, only a few weeks ago..
we made the decision to drive on to agnes water, however this was 100km away and it was getting late.. there are signs everywhere warning not to drive in the bush after dark but once we had started we had to continue ... it was a little scary towards the end but we made it and arrived in agnes water safe but in the pitch dark..
agnes water is small with only one road in and out.. and has few street lights so finding somewhere to park the van was interesting..!!..in the end we had to drive on to seventeen seventy 4 kms away and found a car park...
