waking up
with a last look at the now cloud covered mount cook we flew beside yesterday we
headed off to Twizel.a cute village just 12kms from the lake and
busiest in the winter for the skiing season..i liked twizel a great
name eh...and a real different feel to it..village green, shops not in
a line and a precinct area all have been uncommon in new Zealand so far..

we drove
on over the lindis pass again a mountain drive not quite so steep but
still picturesque..and stopped for lunch in a lay-by next to the
clutha river..this cold clear mountain stream meanders around the car
park hidden most of time behind large native bushland..but in places
where it was visible it flowed quickly over stones and pebbles.. so
perfect for pooh sticks... robin and I threw several large sticks in
at on end and then ran to the other end of the car park and I was
delighted to see of the six, three made it past me.... awesome fun

we arrived
in cromwell about 4pm, another cute town on the dunstan lake popular
in the gold rush times . some of the buildings have been relocated
and renovated by the lake shore to look like a 1850 s street and now
house craft shops and cafes..we stayed in a camp site and enjoyed a
lovely warm summers evening after starting the day in the mountains
really cold...the weather here is more changeable than england and I
have been surprised how cold it is most of the time...either windy by
the beaches or a chilly from the mountain air..but apparently here in
cromwell, often the weather stays warm as it is a valley and seems to
have its own micro climate...another interesting day...
