6th January the five of us set off south for the drive to Kangeroo valley hopefully to see some " kangas "...we had a Great  drive down the coast to the national park and saw the beautiful
Wollongong which is where we were heading on new years day but was full...!!
it is where the river meets the sea and so has rocky outcrops to jump off into warm river waters and has the sandy beach in the back ground awesome.. we only stayed long enough for photos
and moved on down the coast road over Warrawong bridge,a newly constructed concrete affair, as the old bridge fell into the sea..with great views all the way down the coast cliffs and sandy

We arrived at Kiama a popular seaside resort, where there is a blow hole, a small hole in the volcanic rocks where the sea builds up underneath and then blows up like a geyser, very interesting..we had lunch here in the park before turning inland west to kangaroo valley
.. we searched high and low but no kangas and no wombats..though there were signs for them all down the roads..we saw Fitzroy falls, carrington falls and had a lovely cliff walk from the visitor centre which takes you along the top of the mountain with varying views of
the falls and even down into a grotto..

Wondering where to eat we stopped off at a real outback hicksville, called Hill Top...we pulled up outside this bar and all 14 eyes turned when we entered, it was obviously only full of locals and they must have questioned what we were doing there..turned out food was not being
served anyway so we had to walk back past the 7 locals who were still
staring out of the window as we got into the car..!! we eventually ate at Picton still outback but more friendly..

Robin and I decided to go it alone to the Blue mountains, Jo said we
could take the convertible so we set off early, roof down, music on acting like teenagers...lol...
first stop was Glenbrook then Wentworth falls, where we had a slow walk under the mountains, awesome the path took us past waterfalls and caves and grottos half way down the
mountain..then back up to the car park.. We then had lunch in Leura, a really cute town oldy worldy full of trendy bars and restaurants..we arrived in katoomba quite late so just settled in and then had a night on the town...!! well a thai and then watched a live rock
band..but most of the town was deserted..oh we did find an awesome place similar to the one in Rio, a 1910 s Parisian style cafe with all the old decor round mirrors, wooden panelling and playing jazz music..you must go if in katoomba..

we went to see the three sisters in Katoomba, three rocks that stick
op by themselves with Legends attached to them..and awesome views across the blue mountains, they are really blue, its the hue from the eucalyptus leaves..after a bit of exploring here we moved on to Blackheath and Govetts Leap more awesome views across the mountains
and a few short walks.. we had a great time thoroughly enjoying ourselves..

was great we all set off in two cars to Nelsons Bay..first stop was Hunter valley the wine making area..we stopped at an awesome vinyard and had the best lunch ever, overlooking the fields of grapevines into the distance..it was a warm sunny day and it was great..then the
young ones went off wine tasting while robin and I just drove around the area in the car meeting the others later in the shopping area near a lake.. to move on up north.

We arrived in Nelsons Bay around 6pm and after a look on the beach decided it was a bit chilly for a swim, we headed off to the motel the boys had chosen..after freshening up we all walked to Fingal bay, it was getting dusk and as we paddled in the cool but not cold water
we were soon finding it hard to see where we were walking....it was so much fun and at one stage Ian thought he saw a tiny kangeroo but we all laughed when it turned out to be a rabbit in the undergrowth at the edge of the beach.....lol..we continued walking on the beach
paddling in the waves in the dark all the way to Shoals bay, about an
hours walk and for just 5 minutes the moon shone on the water but then returned behind the clouds, a shame, it was amazing all of us laughing and splashing like kids...we just made it before closing time and had a well earned cider before taking the road way back to
the motel...Robin fell asleep straight away, but the four of us stayed up playing cards until 2am....it was a great day and a fun evening...

we went into Nelsons bay itself to have a full aussie breakfast which was great and then we headed off to the view point in Tomaree national park..it is a 90 min walk up hill with possibilities of seeing Koala s but we didnt..up to 161metres above the bays... from the top you could see all  the different bays east, west andsouthwards as well as the entrance to the bay from the ocean..it was fabulous again a lovely sunny day and as we all looked down onto
Fingal bay it looked so clear, sandy and peaceful we decided our next stop was a swim there...which we did, after the hour long descent still no Koalas but a few enormous spiders, later..the boys and svieta played with the body board but I thought the waves were too
high for me and just watched...we arrived back in sydney around 6pm to get ready for the Last supper...our last meal together in Sydney..

Ian had booked this amazing restaurant in Balmain, a really cute upmarket
suburb of Sydney and the food was the best even better than the vinyard yesterday,just..but the best news of all was Mark proposed to Svetlana and she said yes...lol..so we had bottles of champagne all night and we were all able to celebrate the official engagement together what a lovely evening we had...and we hope you will both be very happy ..congratulations..

So that ended our time in Sydney with my boys and their partners...Mark
Ian and I had not been together on xmas day for soo long 10 years ish..
so it was very special..and I would really like to thank Jo and Ian for doing such a good job in making it a great holiday for us all...thanks a million.....
