29th Robin and I took the ferry to Parramatta, a one hour
trip, first in the harbour waters then a slow 4 knots /hr into the
parramatta river for the last 20 mins..Parramatta was the first
settlement where food was grown for the city and there are many old
buildings and reminders of their past. We took a free bus ride round
the town just to get a feel of the place and decided we did like it,
with many street cafes and bars full of people, the town had a lovely
riverside park running through it...great place.
spent with Mark and Svetlana, they had been doing their own thing and
so had we but today we went to the Botanical gardens together. Had a
guided tour around government house and had pie and mash...or a
“Tiger” as it is called, at Cafe de Wheels...a world famous
street pie van that has been there for 70 years and is full of
pictures of the stars eating there...( just for fun...) Brad Pitt,
Jennifer Saunders and loads more...we then walked up to King cross
and caught the train back to Circular Quay for the ferry home.
Jo took Robin and I to The Olympic park..
up to the 17th floor in the Nova hotel and had an awesome
view of the whole area and back to Sydney.. we walked round looking
at the park that was solely built for the Olympics 2000 and is now a
leisure park and housing development...we read names of athletes that
won medals and all the volunteers who helped out, including Jo s
friend, Frank, and Marks friends wife, Sasha..it was an awesome
day....and then the fireworks..sadly Ian was working but we collected
Mark and Svetlana from home and headed out to Circular Quay... Jo
works on the 33rd floor of a building on the quay so we
watched the 9pm fireworks from up there...it was amazing we could see
all the boats, all the harbour and all the fireworks, the 9pm display
is not as long as the midnight one but just as good...Jo suggested as
the crowds get ridiculous, we head back to Drummoyne for the 12pm
fireworks and we agreed but Mark and Svetlana wanted to soak up the
atmosphere of the city on New Years Eve, understandably.
from Drummoyne was awesome, there was about 100 people there so the
atmosphere was great and we enjoyed it a lot...super to be in Sydney
on New years Eve is has to be one of the musts in life...!!
day was spent trying to get to the national park for an awesome day
by the beach but it was full so we ended up in Cronella, Ian BBQ`d
some fish and we enjoyed a day by the sea together...on the way home
we stopped in Newtown for an awesome Thai meal, the six of us
enjoying an evening of chatting and fun...
Jo s last day off so we all went on the Spit to Manly walk..
one of the best walks around the harbour, about 10kms around the
bays, then the over the head with views into Sydney ending up in
Manly .. passing through several cute coves one of which we all swam
in...we all enjoyed it so much, it has to be one of the best walks
ever...with scenery changes all the time...we had a nice meal and a
few drinks in Manly before catching the last ferry home...another
Mark and Svetlana enjoyed Ians christmas present to them , a night in
a hotel overlooking the Quay, while we spent our last free day of
travel on our tickets... we did the tram, the bus, 4 ferries the bus
again the ferry and then two more ferries it was great...and when we
arrived back home Ian had cooked a full roast chicken dinner...wow my
first roast for 8 weeks ..heaven...!!
it was Five go to the beach... an easy day swimming and body boarding
in the waves at Coogee...featuring the expert “boarder”
Robin...lol..I have the videos...!!
second week ends... it was great the beach, swimming, the fireworks,
great walks, ferry rides and train rides another awesome week...!
