so after another home cooked meal a good sleep and a great thunder storm....we set off on our adventure into the hills and lakes... we knew the road was long and winding..but also unmade and as ever bumpy and rocky. after rain the water cascades down the steep roads and they are all but washed away with huge great crevices to get the car across that ordinarily you would not risk going along..but..we are adventurers now..!!

.the maximum you can go is 30km/hr on the flat..you just have to find the flat ..!! ..and after a few rather interesting manouvers we came across the lake... it is actually a man made reservoir and quite large.. as we were taking photos the sky began to get very dark and we just made it back to the car before the downpour..it was great to see all the rain dropping into the lake and bouncing back up again from the safety of our car... ..but after 15 mins robin pointed out we should attack the road again incase the steep climb up from the lake is no longer passable or non existant..it turned out to be a wise decision, the water was already flowing very fast down the middle of the road and we were glad to reach the flat part again..

another 10kms later the road began to climb more steeply up into the hills..the vegetation was more interesting with trees and large bushes obscuring the view over the countryside..with enough gaps to stop and admire it .

we eventually rose to the peak and had a great view over the lake and mountains....we did not meet another car for the whole of the 23kms, though clearly from his tracks, a lorry was ahead of us most of the way..

after a lunch break we continued back down the hairpin bends to the village of Los Sauces..quite busy for a mountain village with a few made up roads..we followed signs to Dique de Cruz de Eje which is the large damn across the lake...it was amazing to see that after another 10kms on unmade roads we arrived at one of the biggest concrete damns i had seen...how strange to leave the roads as mud tracks and build this huge concrete construction .. we drove across the damn just to have a break from the continual uneven bumpy road..

where the outlet from the damn forms a river, was Toco Toco, here picnic tables and bbq areas were laid out next to the river banks, it looked very pretty indeed with neat cut grassy areas and palm trees and plenty of wildlife..  it was here we saw our first wild puppies..they were so cute and very friendly with no mother dog anywhere in sight, just the three cute puppies who seemed to follow us around hoping for titbits or maybe a new home...??

after taking a few pictures we returned to Capilla via the main road...another excellent day..
