Where I stayed
el mirador de santa ana
we walked down the road from the hotel and soon arrived in a much more ameanable place with very interesting buildings...carved wooden colonial balconys surrounded a very pretty square with a fountain...it was very busy with people getting on with their lives....there are three plazas in cusco all very well done and interesting.. the main plaza has a large church dominering over the square and all the buildings around the square have rows of columbed buildings..with restaurants above..
i have decided cusco is my favourite city..it has tiny old street new modern twists and very clean and tidy with no street sellers or putt putts allowed in the actual main plaza..that makes such a difference.
we had a nice meal overlooking the plaza and as dusk fell the xmas lights began to illuminate the square reminding me it was the festive season...( i had actually forgotten...!!!)
as seems very common over here after our meal the town suddenly became very busy.. we walked down streets previously empty in the afternoon that were now crowded....all shops were open, cafes full and street sellers bartering their wares...amazing...!!
we caught a taxi back up the hill of santa ana to the hotel and prepared ourselves for the worst part of our trip........a 24 hour trip to cordoba... (2 economy flights, taxis across the crazy Lima streets and traffic jams, a midnight flight out of Lima, arriving in Cordoba around 5:30 am a couple of hours before the car hire booths open, then our car hire drive to an unknown destination? Still we need a bit of excitement...)
