well firstly hello and so glad we are all still here on 12. 11. 11... as some of you may know
11. 11. 11 was a special day on the mayan calender and i always wondered where and how i would spend it.
well it started with an amazing bus ride, remember i described the bus as hair raising, well yesterdays was so scary i could not stop laughing, probably hysteria..!! we thought instead of walking up or down the steep cobbled streets we would catch a bus...hhhmmmm...not only were the roads steep but also loads of hairpin bends, bone shakingly awesome and going extremely fast with no care about what was coming the other way...it was the most fun i have had in ages....oh and to top it all we had to stand up...still we were better able to see the near misses and the horror on the other drivers faces that way...!!..lol...
on arriving in the city centre unscathed we started to walk towards a market square but i was suddenly drawn to walk the other way...so, past awesome buildings, new and old, tall and short ornate and ordinary we eventually arrived at a park gate where i could not believe it, there was an amazing gathering of people doing a " ceremony of love " it was what i had always wanted to see. the leader was obviously of indian decent wearing a feather headress and prayers and chanting filled the air it was fantastic everyone joined in from all races and coutries and many like us not understanding the words but knowing what they were saying...so peaceful and loving about saving mother earth from danger and respecting all ... and guess what, suddenly robin said look your watch .....it was 11:11am on 11. 11. 11.....wow..we were both amazed....now that is what i call awesome.....!!
i am posting this now as robin and i have been too busy to finish it we will do so later..
if i do not finish this now i will forget the detail..
so after this we walked back into town and saw a collection of about 50 tents of people demonstrating quietly about the injustice of the world, the bankers and the ruling elite....( same as at st pauls i believe)
we took loads of pictures of the amazing buildings and went to a few street markets eventually coming to the parisienne part of the city. the best thing being a replica of what i think was a 1890 s tearoom in paris and had been there since that time and been renovated to excellent quality.
we then took the metro to the other side of the city, botafogo and followed this with another hair raising bus ride ...coz we like fun...but spent more time stationary in traffic..not fun.. still we did see more of the city...after a walk round and an episode of robin getting covered with coke when he opened a 2 litre bottle we had bought.. im afraid i laughed ...and him getting bird pooed on, i laughed again...it was orange...!! due to the mango trees i think... we sat down undecided which way to go next and we were befriended by a spanish family who asked if we were lost and offered to help , so after 10 mins of pigeon english and spanish we ended up on a bus going to ipanema..! interesting...
so we spent an unexpected evening on ipanema beach waiting for sunset which sadly was not to be , it clouded over... it was good to see the change from day to night there, though, because now what was an empty space turned into cafes and bars with tables and chairs on the street and music playing ...awesome...and so ended another excellent fun day...
