travel tip: go to the printemps store at the madeline metro and go to the 8th floor. there is a self serve restaurant that you can get a small cheap feed or a decent meal, and the view is fantastic. you have pretty much a 360 degree view of france eating outside. you can just go up to the floor and not buy anything and walk out to the open area for a photo and take in the view.
we ventured north to monmarte the area famous for its artists square. here you have all the local painters displaying there work for you to buy, and some are on hand to do portraits if you like. we must say there work is very good!!!! its a good spot to go to experience parisian culture of art. also here in this section of paris is the sacre cour the church which is the 2nd highest point in paris behind the eiffel. this church was built after a promise between two people in the event paris survived prussian occupation. its a great church perched high on the hills of paris.
we are getting pretty good at the picnic and walking around with the french stick. Commonly known as a baguette you will see parisians walking around with it either for eating later or simply just taking bits of it while they walk around. another tip is to go to rue cler for the best fruit or cheese we have tasted. rob luvved the peaches he bought there, and left none for louise, although she liked her nectarine. we can not for the life of us figure out why there are ppl selling fruit in metro undergrounds in places where the smell causes you to breathe through the mouth.
we returned back to montmarte at night to see the famous moulin rouge
we took sunday real casual sipping more wine with a wonderful picnic at trocadero fountains. this is a must do we think for any couple or group of friends, take some cheese, cold meats, your baguette, bottle of wine and sit on the grass next to the fountains. you get a great atmosphere from people, buskers, and the view of the eiffel across the road is magic. make sure you get there just before sunset so you get to see things during the day and night.
and so comes to an end our affair with paris. its been a great week, and the weather has been sooooo good, every day blue sky 30 degrees. we take off for dubai monday arvo getting in at midnight, so till then au revoir, abientot
PS merci to all those who have taken the time to read our travels we appreciate it heaps!!!!
rob and louise.
