* Handy tip - Shoes electronics and alcohol are really cheap here!!!
Upon arrival we were transferred to the Arabella Sheraton in an S-Class Mercedes. Rob was very excited cruising down the AUTOBAHN at 160km/hr. Whhewww!! Louise didn't know the difference but was careful not to ruin the upholstery.
The train and streetcar (tram) is the best way to get around Frankfurt. Remember to push 50 and Einzelfahrt (I think), the fare being $1.70 Euro one way. However there are no ticketing gates and few conductors, so if your'e short of change, you could ride it for free but be warned of a 30 EURO fine.
1st stop - Haptwache - great shopping at the galeria, and nice place to relax and enjoy a beer or latte machiatto.
2nd stop - Sachsenhausen - we took the advice of the lonely planet and walked cobblestone streets to Fichte-Kranzi where we sampled frankfurters and apelfwein with the best potato mash in the world, served straight to your plate using an icing bag.
3rd stop - Romerberg - Next day - There is not much left of the old city in Frankfurt from the bombings in 1944. The Romerberg and the buildings surrounding the city square is all that remains, but well worth seeing.
