Another brief but enjoyable city break this time in New Zealand's capital. Again the location is the main attraction. Built over several inlets and a natural harbour with hills all round there are plenty of photo opportunities.
Because of the location Wellington is one of the windiest cities around and it certainly blew throughout our time here. Our first day was wet and chilly for a change so walking was a little unpleasant but by the next day we were back to sunshine and grateful for the cooling breeze.
The city has quite a small town feel and has no really tall skyscrapers but there is a good centre and enough to do for a few days. The inevitable cable car took us into hills to some large botanical gardens with good views and we climbed "Mount" Victoria (a hill) for another viewing angle
The parliament building is called and looks like a beehive and there is also the country's premier museum where Emma spent a couple of educational hours. It reminded me too much of school geography lessons so I disappeared off to the NZ Cricket Museum and spent a very interesting time going through the history of cricket from a NZ perspective. I was the only person there and was made very welcome by the curator who sported a W G Grace beard and had an encyclopedic knowledge of cricket matters.
A very relaxed boat trip to one of the islands nearby rounded off our time on the North Island which seems to have sped by.

. The best walk is all along the harbour front which stretches for miles with plenty going on.The parliament building is called and looks like a beehive and there is also the country's premier museum where Emma spent a couple of educational hours.
