30/7/07 The adventure begins
JENN: We head off at 0630 heading for Dover for the ferry to France, non eventful trip but we are both feeling nervous about the whole trip, Rob especially as he has a gentlemanly view that I am his responsibility to keep safe for the next three months. I on the other hand have fretted and panicked for the last 2 months planning and trying to get ready while Rob has been as laid back as any Aussie I have meet, so my revenge is in my nonchalant concern for our future. It's a glorious sunny day, unlike the month before and the ferry is calm and all of us, Nelly and George (ROB: I would like to point out that Jenn named the car and caravan for your info George is the car , Nelly is the Caravan... ) included make it in one piece. We make the drive to the Paris campsite with only 2 wrong turns which Rob reverses the caravan and car in suburbia like a pro, much to the relief of all included. I keep quiet and try to look small at these points, not an easy task, we are still talking to each other. We arrive, dump the caravan and proceed to the local Carrefour and get some non essentials and head home. We set up camp, then Rob tests the electrical circuit by trying his collection of technical toys. Within 15minutes he has the computer on and has music playing through it with the large speakers he has brought along, states we probably don't need the portable DVD player, what with the X-Box, TV, new laptop and such but looks happy with his world of electrical wires. (ROB: I really did need to test the load that the electrical circuits in France can take.. honest) He shows how he can control the laptop with his mobile phone and I wonder if he isn't just a bit too spoilt and quickly open a bottle of Moet the girls at work bought me and cheer in the holiday ahead, both of us amazed this may be what we do for the next 3 months. Mike is nervous for us, he calls three times today, its great having him look out for us especially as they are on holiday themselves and shouldn't be thinking about anything but themselves. I have bought the Disneyland tickets and booked the shuttle for opening time. I'm already tiddly and Rob proceeds onto beer with determination to unwind no matter how anxious he is, we hit the hay at 2300.
31/7/07 Day Two The alarm rings and Robs awakes to find his plan worked, his night of beverages has lead him to become so unwound he is unable to operate at normal speed. (ROB - I like to think that the stress of driving 300 miles was a contributing factor to my malaise... I am also worried about Harry Potter - we have the latest book on cd for the drives and he is in trouble again - and what about the death of ...... I wont spoil it for those who haven't read the book yet, but all I can say is. Wow) His stomach and head still within the UK, I inform the reception that we would like to transfer our plans for Disney until tomorrow. Rob proceeds to sleep until 1100 while I read and listen to music, he emerges looking slightly more perky, blames the stress while suggesting it may also have been a result the unwinding procedures he initiated last night. Able to hold his head up, we watch a DVD, eat too much and have dinner. Rob sticks to Tea, can't have Mickey waiting another day.
1/8/07 Day Three We hit Disneyland on opening with about 2000 friends who also arrived at this time, its busy but not as bad as predicated as we cleverly picked the term break to go. Lines aren't too long and we go on everything we come across, Rob's favourite ride, space mountain mission two preceded to provide me with a stonking headache and my neck has gone, but he screamed like a big girls blouse the first time and strutted on the second when he had it sussed. Lucky for me Rob had managed to bruise his coccyx on Indiana Jones Ride which slowed his up a bit (ROB - Jenn still wont look at my bruised bits, says she is on a sabbatical from nursing, if I had know that I would have brought one of the other SASH girls!). We went home, I had a sleep for 30mins, promising my head I would be good to it in the future while crossing my fingers, knowing that tomorrow we return. We watch a DVD and now Rob is making my dinner, I love France.
