Up very early for our Phi Phi Island sunrise tour with Simba Sea Trips, bus arrived at 6:00am to take us to Phuket Marina. I was feeling alot better at this stage & pumped for the trip. It was another glorious Phuket wet season day.

This was our 3 trip with Simba & Melissa's 5th. We hadn't done the Phi Phi sunrise tour & even though we love the Phang Nga Bay trip, after Halong Bay i don't think Phang Nga bay holds a candle to Halong bay. (Sorry Phuket fans). The Phi Phi sunrise tour means you get to all the great spots before the other tourist boats get there. There was a total of 12 people aboard, including our friends from TA Marita & her friend Ben.

Left the Marina around 7:00am & headed to Maya Bay. We arrived at a deserted Maya Bay at 8:00am for breakfast. Maya bay is of course the backdrop to the Movie 'The Beach' & is beautiful, especially when you are the only ones there. Went for a swim, then enjoyed breakfast of egg & bacon rolls, fresh fruit & because we had the lovely Jenny onboard as our host we got Jenny's banana cake as well. My daughter's comment was if there was no banana cake she wanted her money back. Had a relaxing look around before some other boats started to come in.

Moved onto our 1st snorkelling stop at straight rock, it has one of the best & little known reefs in the area, great diversity of fish & there are usually some nemo's there. Simba of course provides all the snorkelling gear & Jenny & crew are in the water with you. Some beautiful snorkelling was done here.

Next stop was Pileh Lagoon, again we were there before any other tour operators. I personally love this place, water is so clear. Jenny invited us to jump off the bow of the boat into the crystal blue clear water. I think i still hold the record for largest splash set a couple of years ago. We all took turns in jumping off, then went back for more. The crew had their syncronised jumps as well.

Quick stop at Monkey beach next, it was high tide so not much room, so was a very quick stop which was good because i don't trust the little buggers here. We then went to look at Phi Phi island resort at Tonsai bay (I think) went up the canal as far as we could.

We then travelled to Nui Bay or camel rock, & around the corner is a secluded beach where we enjoyed Simba's beautiful lunch. Lunch consited of Jenny's quiche, delicious salads, chicken & fresh fruit. We stayed here for about 1.5hrs so just laid on the beach, went for a swim & relaxed.

Quick trip to Loh Samah bay for another snorkel which is has a nice & protected reef & again great snorkelling.

Headed back to the marina about 1:30pm for the long & by now bumpy trip. About now i started getting stomach cramps so was a an uncomfortable trip back, not helped by the fact we sat out the front. We arrived back at the marina around 2:30pm & jumped aboard our bus back to Swiss Palm & returned about 3:30pm.

Another fantastic trip with Simba, absolutely beautiful day with Sunshine all day, fantastic for swimming & snorkelling. Highly recommend Simba, you pay a bit more but its worth every cent. We will definitely be back for more next year.

When i got back, spent a penny or 2, & felt alot better. After a few hours relaxing decided we were in need of some Western food, so we we caught a tuk tuk to Molly Malones on Beach rd for a Bistro meal. Good place for a pint of Tiger & good food. Girls got Roast Pork, Matt a burger & me Bangers & chips. Did the job.

Got a message from some friends were having a drink at OTOP at one of the bars so headed there for a few quiet ones after dinner, had a good time.

Next day, Di, Mel & myself (Matt may have partied hard again) wandered up to Juncylon for a bit of a look. I stress again, Di & myself aren't shoppers so just looked around for a few hours. Had Mcd for lunch.Returned to Swiss Palm & relaxed by the Pool.

Nickis for dinner, Matt wanted a pizza, i had some prawns & the girls steak, then got another message to meet up in Bangla for a drink. So after dinner done the obligatory walk down Bangla with all its sights to the Sunset bar for a few Pineapples and Vodkas, its funny the amount of young Thai females who seemed to know Matt pretty well & greeting him like a lost friend as we wandered down Bangla Rd. Anyway met up with our friends & after a few drinks thought we would catch a 'show'. Told Di we were going to something like a caberet show. I don't know how it happened but followed the leader & ended up watching a ping pong show :). (Happy anniversary for tomo Di) I don't think this was the show Di was expecting but at least she can say she's seen it. Free entry & $33 for a drink, bargain.... got out of there before we had to buy a drink.

Kids went off with others & Di & I headed home, but we came across a bar with a band playing so popped in for a couple & enjoyed the show, we ended up staying for awhile & Melissa was waiting for us when we got home :).

Friday was our anniversary & it started off a bit drizzly but came good & we just relaxed around the pool. We enjoy our coffee's at thip coffee & had one most mornings, Thip coffee is next door to Swiss palms & out the front of Thanthip resort. Lunch was at Ken's Inn again.

I booked into Mom Tri's Kitchen for our anniversary dinner tonight, we stayed there last year at the villa's for a couple of nights & it is a beautiful place, great food & if you want to go somewhere special this is the place. Our driver picked us up around 4:30pm. We stopped at the Optic place to collect & pay for my glasses & they are perfect. Did a bit of shopping in Kata then onto Mom Tri's for happy hour & watch the sunset. Showed the kids around the property & they were impressed. We all enjoyed a great meal, i started with the Kata Noi Crab cakes which Cathy told me were great & i agree, fantastic. Complimentary breads & a spring roll. Mains, Mel mushroom risotto, Di for the 3rd time eating here had the pork belly & scallops, Matt Veal Parmigana & me seafood samunprai, which consisted of Grilled rock lobster, Tiger prawn, river prawn, mussels & squid with herb butter. We had a scoop of ice cream each for desert. The meal was exceptional again. Expensive but well worth it for a special treat. Returned back around 10:00pm.

Saturday, our last full day & Di & i sat by the pool for the whole day, kids went to the beach for awhile. I enjoyed a lunch at Wai restaraunt Warung along beach rd, green curry & rice, delicious. Beautiful sunset, our last dinner in phuket was of course at Sabai beach, squid with Pepper & garlic & Seafood fried rice. Let off a few fireworks, Wandered up to Bangla Rd again for a night cap, then wandered back up beach rd. Stopped for another night cap at the Irish bar while Matt got his feet eaten by fishies.

Sunday, we had a final breakfast at Swiss palm, then went back to room & pack :(. . Had one more meal from the Beach Rd Warungs, Di Thai fried chicken, me a Chicken & cashews from the Wai Warung. Settled the bill & sad good-byes at swiss palms. We were on the Jetstar flight from Bkk at 9:15pm & the kids were on Thai at Midnight so we left around 1:30pm, i rang Bangkok air on Friday to change our Bangkok flight to the 4:10pm flight & excepted the change charge of around $120 but when we got to the airport that flight was delayed, so worried about the Jetstar flight they changed us back to the 3:00pm flight, but then on checking the 4:10pm flight was on time anyway so not sure of what happened there. Must write an email.

We had a great time in Phuket again & we really do just love it here. The phuket part was just for relaxing & it was great to catch up with the kids, some friends & make new friends. If we do come back next year we will do even less. By staying up the Nth end of Patong we really do think we have the best of both worlds, peaceful & relaxing but still only a short trip into the craziness if you desire. Laundries everywhere 50b-80b a kilo, atm's some great places to eat. I have mentioned before Di & I aren't big shoppers, my tally was 4 singlets & 2 t-shirts, & even those were bought from Graceland Tailors at the set rate of 150baht & 200baht.2 T-shirts from Vietnam & a zippo lighter. I spend more on beer & food obviously. Not sure on Di's count but wasn't to much i don't think.

Hopefully back next year & maybe we will do a road trip thru krabi, or maybe back to Koh Samui, or maybe more of Vietnam. We will wait & see. We want to save up for a Europe trip.

Thanks for anyone bothering to read the blog & i hope you have gained some info for any forthcoming trips that you maybe planning.
