One of the disadvantages of staying at a place like Swiss Palm is there is no 'Buffet' breakfast, they do a a-la-carte breakfast which is ok & you are looked after by the lovely Dang, but not the choice you have at a larger resort. We didn't include the breakfast as part of the booking this year & thought we would check out some of the breakfast's at restaraunts close by. But, most don't open to 9-10am & i'm walking on the beach by 7am
Anyway, a beautiful morning for AFL Grand final day greeted us & when enquiring about the best breakfast with Sue & Colin the night before they told us 'The Islander' had a great breakfast, the Islander is in a Soi off Bangla, so Sue & Colin joined us for breakfast & we caught a tuk tuk to Bangla Rd a wandered down to The Islander around 9am. It was a good breakfast, & we must come back one day for dinner one night as the menu looks great.
After breakfast, Matt & myself were to meet up with some friends at the Aussie bar to watch the Grand Final, but when we wandered down the place was already packed. I made the executive decision to lob at the Kangaroo bar across the Rd. (I'm still yet to put foot in the aussie bar)
We all had a great day, the weather was hot & sunny so the beers were going down well. People kept ringing the bell & by 11:00am we already had, had about 8 shots. Di & Melissa went shopping but returned for a quick drink but even they stayed here & had a ball. Amongst the passing parade of sellers in Bangla Rd, Thai ingenuity at its best, a man was selling Meat pies on a tray, classic. Great game of footy & happy to see the Ducks get up
Somehow got changed & headed to one of our favorite places to eat, Sabai Beach for a great meal, then a banana & chocolate pancake on the way home put an end to a great day.
Sunday i woke up a wee bit seedy but went for a walk on the beach around 6:30am. Another beautiful Phuket wet season day dawned, don't know why people say not to come at this time of the year. I really wouldn't want to be anywhere else.Had breakfast at Ken's Inn this morning which is on the Cnr of Soi Eden & Rathutit Rd, it was ok.
Went to Gracelands Tailors, my daughter ordered some suits for her boyfriend, they still had his measurements from earlier that year, i had some trousers taken up. They are good reliable tailors & they don't hassle you.
We had our Driver take us to Phuket town & we visited the cashew nut factory for our supplies of cashews, $60 later we exited. Went to Rang Hill & had lunch at one our favorite places on the Island, Tunk-ka cafe. Had another great meal here which included Fried chicken with pandamus leaves & garlic, pineapple fried rice & some spring rolls. Had the obligatory Tunka-ka cafe iced coffee, beers & fruit shakes. The cafe has a new viewing deck which has some nice views of Phuket. Its a great place for lunch or dinner if you are in the area.
When we returned to Swiss palm, we wandered up Rathitit Rd towards Top Charoen as i wanted to price my glasses here as my Vietnam visit didn't work out. I heard that Top Chareon was a good place to get them. Handed over my prescription, i need multi-focals & i wanted transisioned lenses as well, picked some frames & the quote was over 16,000baht, more than i would pay at home. Headed back & then popped into a little optical shop on the way (P.D.Opticical) & the quote was 8,700baht. So ordered them & i''ll pick them up later in the week.
Just relaxed around the pool after we got back & just grabbed some Thai fried chicken for dinner from the Warung on Beach Rd past the old soccer pitch
Up early again for a walk along the beach next morning, another cracker of a morning, breakfast at Sabai Beach this morning was ok. Had a Thai omellette, very good. Good fruit shakes.
Kids wanted a day on the beach so they reserved the beach chairs & we spent a pleasant morning having a swim. Melissa lived dangerously & hired a jet-ski, but she is well schooled in this & took the pics of the ski & said a ll the right things. I had a squirt on it as well, they certainly go. Had lunch at Ken's Inn which is Melissa's favorite restaraunt from her visits, big menu & she loves the spag bog, they have a green curry spaghetti that i must have a crack at one day. Had tom yum goong & spring rolls, they were pretty good.
Di & i spent the afternoon by the pool, as i was feeling a bit off.
i hear alot about No 6 restaraunt so thought we would give that a go for dinner, place was packed but we asked to be taken up the hill to the other restaraunt in the courtesy bus
No walk along the beach this morning, felt terrible, waited for the chemist to open & grabbed some stuff, no milk or alcohol blah blah. A few mates popped in from the Sth end 1/2 an hour later so had a cappucinno, showed them around swiss palm then onto Legends for an ale. I forgot what the chemist told me. Lunch at legends was spring rolls & chicken. By this stage i was going down hill fast. So went back & sat around the pool while Matt & friends attempted to drink the Mini mart dry of breezers.
Had a very early night, no dinner, but feeling a little better, we are off to Phi Phi tomorrow for the Simba Sunrise tour, so i got some rest.
