shorter than they should be, as all out text got stolen, together with
our laptop, all our valuables, and almost our whole campervan, when it
was broken into and trashed in Rome at the end of October. Have a look
at that entry if you want to have a look at the damage the bastards
did. The next month or so´s text is written 6 months later, so we may
have forgotten some bits!)
After loving Venice all over again (which meant we ended up staying another day after Karen´s birthday) we hugged the east coast of Italy to venture further south than we had done back in May or when we were here in the old campervan 11 years before
We visited the lovely villages of Peschici and Vieste before continuing along the coast, and visiting the remarkable ¨Castel Del Monte¨, a folly built for no apparent reason on a low hill overlooking the fishing town of Trani. This unique and unusual hexagonal castle is in fantastic condition, with marble columns and rooms that made no sense. Apart from a few olive groves it didn´t really protect anything, but made for some great photos and views of the coast. Trani itself was a lovely fishing town, and we spent the next morning looking around the old stone fortifications and beautiful cathedral overlooking the sea, and watching the fishermen bring in their catch and sell it live on the docks.
