Split was a few km down the road, a major port with (another) beautiful walled old town. After visiting places like this, you realise you just can't get this kind of stuff in Australia, and how much as a young country we really lack in history and old architecture. To have an old Roman city overlaid with Venetian ruins and built on by the Croatians - don't get that in Perth!
