Just before the Julian Alps
The Slovenian countryside was fantastic - we took the old girl (the van) through some unreal hairpin bends up to the snowline of the Julian Alps,

and onto Bled, this lovely town with a castle perched on a sheer rock face and a church on an island in the middle of a lake.

Wine in our hands AGAIN??
And coincidentally, renowned as making the best vanilla slice in the world (yep, it was pretty good, although we are not participants of the 'Snot Block' tour of South Western Australia' (Simon Grant, you are probably much better able to judge the worthiness of their claim!) We'd seen these mysterious metal rails snaking down a few hills on the way through a couldn't work out what they were until we saw the one in Bled. They were essentially tracks for toboggan rollercoaster things. Brad had a crack and what good fun they were - bloody hell, they went faster than they looked!
