The oasis at the end
The oasis at the end
Yes, it was back to the luxurious French bungalows in Don Daeng for Christmas - and boy what a delight.  We stocked up on wine and the usual supplies (albeit adapted for what we could get hold of - never had a bottle of Lindeman's Sauv Blanc looked as inviting when we saw it on the limited shelves in Pakse!) What a view!

We arrived on Christmas Eve, planning to spend two nights (but convinced ourselves to stay an extra day and to hell with the budget). Xmas Eve sunset

Fantastic food, beautiful view, fun staff - in fact there were only a handful of people there.  Only hope we find as nice a place next Christmas somewhere in South America. Luxury for Xmas

Christmas Day/night saw us down on the banks of the Mekong with a bottle of red, ipod & speakers (and a little dance party for two!). Xmas Day by the Mekong

Christmas dinner we got dressed up in our best backpacker garb, and dined on a 7 course French degustation menu, starting with Tattinger champagne and finishing with a full French cheeseboard and liquers.  Heaven for $15!!!! Xmas Day dinner
