Phuket - Thailand
Hi y'all
At long bloody last - you've finally left, we hear a lot of you say, and where the hell are you going say the rest of you on our email contacts list that we haven't been in contact with for a while! So to answer both questions in reverse order, we've packed in the jobs, rented out the house, cranked up the mortgage and are taking 18 months off to explore Asia, Eastern Europe and South America. And for those that believe this is the longest farewell in history, you're right, it does seem like ages! I think cos we've talked about going for so long, and then with all the uncertainty of Brad going - not going - going - not going -going to Paris for the consultant contract it has taken a while!
So just thought we'd drop you all a quick line to let you know that we're about to finish our 'pre-holiday holiday' in Phuket and starting the "THE BIG TRIP" tomorrow. The last two weeks has been bloody well earned R & R( that's earned by Brad, spent by Karen!). We've managed to do lots of sleeping, eating, drinking, sunbaking....oh, did we mention some sleeping! Yes, we have had a nice lazy start in a many star hotel (we've tried so hard not to get used to it with the ultra-budget hotels ahead!)
So far the "holiday" has been exactly what we were after. Very relaxing and a chance to laze around and work on getting the fluorescent glow off our oversized bodies! Oh my god! Talk about booffers! We have only had one AFD since we've been here, and that was only cos we were so bloody hung-over! Have been eating it up large at the full buffet breakfast every morning and also managing to fit in a larger lunch and even larger dinner (and they don't use diet coconut milk in their curries, let me tell you!) So hence to say we have not taken many photos of ourselves as yet, and the diet STARTS TOMORROW! The diet really does start tomorrow as we're leaving the comforts of The Burasari Hotel and getting into what our next 18 months is really going to be like.........12 hour bus journeys, street food, pit toilets, blisters, Immodium addictions and small cramped guesthouse rooms with "fan" only!
Tomorrow we're off to Bangkok (Yee Haa Karen says - she's been waiting to Bang kok for a while now...........apparently!!!!) One night there and then heading East towards the border with Cambodia to Surin and The Great Elephant Festival! Not sure what to expect apart from over 300 elephants and an influx of 40,000 people and Dumbo soccer??? (we think it's sort of like a Thai version of an animal Highland Games?????)
