An early wake up at 6am to enable us to be on the road by 07.30 as some really good places to take in today.
Just out of Orem we took a secondary type road up into the mountains and immediately noticed the difference in standard to the type of road that we have been riding so slowed the speed. This proved to be a good move as Glen had our first 'moment' when a car cut the corner forcing him to swerve (and swear) but thankfully no accident took place. Also on this road were cows, squirrels and a type of chicken bird that hung out in groups of 10 in the middle of the road. I also saw some deer in the bush but they left us alone.
Then we were back on better roads and enjoyed some nice mountain riding with some great views and lakes to also take in
In the title I mention 'Contrasting Landscapes' and that's what today was lush mountains full of flora and fauna to some of the most arid landscapes on earth. Pictures and videos will show what words cannot describe.
It was very much like the Grand Canyon and it was awesome scenery but also so hot it was hard to be able to really explore it. Arches National Park was fantastic to drive through and we shot some video and took some pictures, I was also watching people in their air conditioned cars with a fair amount of envy also at this time. We actually took our shirts off in the toilets and soaked them in the sink before putting them back on and I kid you not they were bone dry again in 10 minutes.
We then decided to ride down to the Colorado River and stripped down to our undies (right in front of people from the air cond cars) and jumped in for what was a fantastically refreshing swim.
Then refuelled in Moab and rode the 60 miles to our hotel 'Inn at the Canyons' in Monticello and enjoyed another swim in the pool before grabbing some Subway for dinner.
Goal is to have the blog up to date by tonight and also add some videos.
