From Cliff
Started the day by sleeping through our 06.30 alarm and waking around 8am, we both needed the rest.

Quite cool leaving Monticello and we had a good days riding ahead through some great mountain areas and towns. Rode through to Durango and refuelled the bikes then refuelled ourselves with a great coffee from Joes.  We then rode onto Silverton which is an old Western town and had lunch in Grumpys pub and listened to a talented lady play a 100yo piano as it poured rain outside.  Upon leaving we encountered some drizzle but it was only enough to be annoying and slow us down through some fantastic mountain roads that would have been a hoot to ride in the dry.  Apart from day 1 of this trip way back when we were riding to Miami and got drenched we have been so lucky in dodging the rain, it's the heat that has got us.

Everything was looking trouble free and as we were about 30 miles out of Gunnison Glen called me over the intercom, "hey Cliffy I have a big problem, my gear selector has snapped and I cannot change gear. PULL OVER"

The fact that there was a massive storm not far from us that we were trying to beat it to the hotel but there was also the chance that this was going to be a really big headache for us to deal with nearing the end of the day on the side of the road with nothing around for miles.

Now anybody who knows Glen knows that he is always prepared and today was no exception.  Thanks to the tools we had on board we were able to ziptie and glue the gear arm back onto its bracket and we did it within 5 minutes and it looked pretty professional!!!  In our haste to get back on the road and avoid the storm that was now bearing down on us we re-entered the highway in front of a crazy truckie hell bent on overtaking everybody, he got us going around a corner crossing the double lines!!

We decided to give him some space and watched him overtake everything else in front of him in the same manner.

Thankfully we got to the hotel about 10 minutes before the storm and looking at our repair job we think it will last until we are near a Harley shop in two days time.

Had a relaxing swim and hot tub time before ordering in some Chinese food for dinner, we have decided to try and have an early one tonight as the riding planned for tomorrow looks like being the best on the trip!!!

Leaving Monticello a bit later than planned worked out for a few resons - we had a good sleep, the weather was still nice and cool, but not too cool - and it was an easy run of 100 miles to Durango where we had our first pit stop. A great start to the day.

Leaving Durango we were heading North on the famed 'Million Dollar Highway' - so called for it's famous views and road conditions. It truly was a great ride - but we had some threatening weather and fortunately (as always so far) we pulled into Silverton just as the rain really started to bucket down.
