Downtown Seattle was bustling with Christmas shoppers. The line-up to see Santa at Nordstrom's was around the corner.  We listened to carolers and enjoyed the ambiance.  We did come up against one cultural difference though when Keara lost her touque and we couldn't think of another  word for it to ask if anyone had found it.

At Pike Place market, we let the kids pick out any fruit they wanted.  Keara chose a crimson pear and the boys chose (out of season!) cherries which they selected one at a time.  As the merchant at the stand said, "At $10/lb they can do whatever they want."

Then we took the ferry over to Bainbridge Island.  It’s a nice residential (with some small commercial) island due west of downtown Seattle.  The rain held off for most of our trip.

On Tuesday night the boys were on their own while Keara and I went to the Pacific National Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker.  Due to my extremely efficient packing, we only have ONE cold weather outfit each.  I jokingly asked Keara, "What are you going to wear to the ballet tonight?"
