210,000 flowers planted each year
50 fountains;big hit during Louis XIV's day
Arrangement & color of flowers very nice
Belvedere; music salon from 1779
Big party in 1664 celebrated opening of gardens
Birds enjoy farmhouse roof;dovecote nearby
Book was super resource for visit
Chantilly inspired Queens Hamlet;built 1785
Colorful Koons pieces definitely photo ops
Crowds didn't make the trek to Marie Antoinette
Crowds were suffocating at times in palace
Even the pigs were clean on the Queens farm
Even the Queen needed a scarecrow
Farm had vegetable garden & lots of critters
Farm now grows Merlot grapes for wine
Few tourists trekked to the back of the estate
French Pavilion;one of my favorites
Gardens have more than 200,000 trees!
Gardens initially developed under Louis XIV
Got to palace early;bought ticket in Paris
Grand Canal is 1500 meters long;had gondoliers
Grass looked so inviting to my tired feet
Green carpet lies in front of Grand Canal
Hall of Mirrors nearly 250 feet long!
Hard to imagine day-to-day lives back then
Huge area and all immaculately maintained
I got interviewed regarding Koons modern art
I had seen some of Koons pieces before
I think I walked at least 10 miles on estate
I wonder if Marie Antoinette really liked this bed
Imagine having this view of your backyard
Impossible to capture sheer size of palace
In 1662 most of the garden design initially done
Incredible trees exhibit creative, fun attitude
King's bed does not look very comfy
Louis XIII purchased land for gardens in 1632
Louis XIV supposedly nice guy;reigned 72 yrs
Marie Antoinette had to have her own gardens
Marie Antoinette's Grand Trianon
Marlborough Tower was first building in hamlet
Not sure how Temple of Love got its name
Now how did they do this?Looks like snowman
Now where did this come from?
One of the most incredible sights on trip
Palace only has 700 rooms!
Palace was finest achievement of 17th c.French art
Palace&gardens on UNESCO World Heritage list
Petit Trianon architectural contrast&quite small
Petit Trianon inaugurated in 1769
Piece reminded me of new Louvre entrance
Queen even had separate building for her Boudoir
Queens hamlet was enjoyable, quiet area
Queens hamlet was like mini-village for Marie-Ant
Really enjoyed my morning at Versailles
Really enjoyed walking among the flowers
Rock area added to brighten pond
Saw stories on TV about Koons art opening
Skies make scene look like Impressionist painting
Sorry for the angle but still like photo
The extravagance defied belief;commoners suffered
The gardens cover 800 hectares west of palace
This fountain dates from 1670;hard to believe
This is the Temple of Love near Petit Trianon
This piece sold recently for USD 22 million!
This was the Queens House connect to Billiard Room
Today was press day for Jeff Koons art opening
Town of Versailles surrounds palace&estate
Versailles inspired design of Mall in DC
Versailles was the most eye-popping place
Water tower built 1664 to ensure adequate supply
When on horses appear to gallop out of water
Wonder how many full-time gardeners are here
Would be easy to get lost in huge gardens
