So, not a very exciting day, for the most part...a ton of driving and a LOT of flat land!  Gotta love Nevada!  We essentially drove across the entire state today...and then some.

We started in Reno...with our massive winnings (of about $70), we hit a restaurant in the hotel for breakfast.  What a crazy place...the restaurant is literally half empty, and yet they had us wait 10 minutes for a table.  Weird...the food was good, but still!

We did find an outlet mall as we were passing through Sparks.  Our plans had always included some shopping for ourselves, but we had originally figured to do much of it in Great Falls.  Well...the minute Ryan saw the Tommy Hilfiger store...that was it.  In we went!  We happened to hit a great sale on top of the already reduced (even by Canadian standards) outlet prices...let's just say Ryan can pretty much wear Tommy clothing from head to toe now!  Found some more good deals in Jones New York, Skechers, Bath and Body Works, so all is good!  We spent a bit longer in the outlet mall then we had intended, and still had a 9 hour drive to Salt Lake City ahead of us.  But, the I-80 was fairly deserted, except for the semi trucks and some crazy driver from Missouri who couldn't decide if he wanted the left or the right lane, or if he wanted to pass me or not.  So, with an empty highway, it was fairly easy to cruise at 80 mph (or slightly faster when I was driving...) the whole way.

The scenery was pretty desolate...not many towns, although even the smallest ones had 2 or 3 casinos.  Even the gas stations seemed to all have casinos.  Bizarre.  We were trying to figure out what people did who lived in these towns.  The land seemed too desolate for ranching, and still too far from mining areas...not sure.

As we got close to Utah, the sun was starting to go down...the way the light was reflecting off of the clouds, it appeared to have faint rays of light coming from Utah...very cool!  We hit Utah around 8:30 and had just enough light to see the salt flats in the Newfoundland Evaporation Basin.  77 miles of dead straight highway (not a slight curve at all) and white salt all around it.  It is here that speed freaks come to race at the Bonneville Speedway.  Very cool.

It was dark by the time we reached the Great Salt Lake, so while Ryan with his better night vision was able to see it, all I could see was  an absence of street lights off to the north east.  Hopefully I'll get a better look as we leave on Sunday morning.

We arrived at Tanya and Eduardo's house right at 10pm.  Their oldest daughter, Ema, is just 2 days older than Lucas, and she was bouncing off of the walls waiting for us to arrive!  What an awesome greeting!  We're going to hang out here for Saturday and tour the city.  It should be fun!
