When we got back, I went for a bike ride along the Rhine which was beautiful, and then the next week school just seemed to fly by. On Wednesday, we went to the Opel production plant, where they make cars for Saab, Chevy, Vauxhall and Cadillac. We got to see a car being put together from the beginning piece of steel to the end product - facinating! And we got to talk to the CFO which was also interesting.
We had a case study and presentation to put together for Friday on Vodafone's entry into the Hungarian mobile communications market, so we spent Wed and Thursday working on that. Then we all went out to Mainz on Thursday night for a goodbye bash and didn't get home until the presentations on Friday morning were pretty bad hahaha..
On Friday night I went to a going away party for the full-time international students at EBS and met some really interesting people from L.A., France, Madrid, Germany and Hungary. There were two Canadians from Toronto too, so we reminisced about Tim Hortons. It's a shame I couldn't have met everyone earlier.
Most of our group left on Saturday which was sad. There were only pretty much Grant (from Haskayne) and myself left. I invited Verena down to Osterich-Winkel and we all went on a Rhine cruise to Koblenz on Saturday and Grant and I showed her our local pub, which we affectionately call "Gangsta's Paradise", then into Wiesbaden today to do some souvenir shopping. Bad idea, because everything's closed in Germany on Sundays, so we just went for lunch before Grant had to leave.
Tonight Verena and I may go into Frankfurt for some World Cup party - I'm not sure - then I'm off to Santander and Madrid (Spain) on Monday and to meet up with Rica and Javier (Rebecca's new relatives). Will try to write again before I get back next Sunday. Tchews! Bye!
-The people in Germany are unhappy with the current government because of the bad economy, high VAT tax and high unemployment, so other parties are popping up and gaining strength, including a National Socialist (Nazi) party. Apparently, there are many skinheads "Skins" still in Germany who wear army boots with white laces, and have killed about 80 people this year, for no reason. We were told that if we see them, to walk quickly in the other direction. Their opponents are the "Punks" who wear army boots with red laces. They are at the other extreme and will attack and kill Skins, so neither group is safe to be around. People in Germany hate that these factions are allowed to exist, but because of freedom of speech, there's nothing that anyone can do to stop them spreading their hate messages.
- Otherwise, everone here has been more than friendly!
