Hi everyone!  I am finally in Mangonui, which is in the far north section of New Zealand, and I have already had my first day of work.  I am living in a 3 bedroom house with Emily and her mum, who both own the restaurant.  Emily works half the year on Nantucket at the same Inn as my sister.  Her mum is looking for a new place to live at the moment.  I arrived here friday afternoon and spent most of my evening unpacking and getting settled.  Saturday I walked around town for a bit and then had my first shift at work, where I helped set up for dinner.  I then had a few hours to relax before the dinner shift started.  Dinner seems to start a bit later here - most people didn't come in till about 8:00 p.m., and it seemed that the kitchen was closed by 9:30.  It's a pretty small restaurant inside, with about 12 tables, and then 12 tables outside.  The service area is very small, as is the kitchen.  Here, as a waitress, you are responsible for seating, pouring all drinks, serving, cleaning up, resetting, etc.  Everything is done by hand - no computers, etc.  It's certainly going to be a challenge.  I'm not sure that I am cut out for this sort of thing!  I dropped the first plate of food that I brought to a table (just garlic bread, thank goodness) - just flew right off the plate.  The rest of the night went a bit better, I just hope I get the hang of things!  Otherwise, the weather has been fairly good, it's really hot today.  The walk to work is pretty short, but there is a huge, steep hill on the way back.  Mangonui is a really small town, there are a few hotels and a couple other restaurants.  There are lots of fishing boats in the harbor.  I have yet to check out the beach, but I am certainly looking forward to it.  The sun is extremely hot here - a burn only takes about 5 to 10 minutes.  I'll have to wear lots of sunblock!!  I included some pictures, so I hope you enjoy.  Miss you all so much!

Waitin' tables :)
Spilling things, eh? That is why I have always been hesitant to be a waitress...I'm a bit clumsy myself- ha. Think of it this way, it will only make you more graceful!
Do they serve only dinner or do they also do breakfast/lunch? Just curious if you are able to pick up other shifts. Do you get any days off? When you do...enjoy! It all looks really beautiful- and enjoy the hot's cold here! Finally got snow!!

Boo hoo hoo
Ain't life a bitch? If it isn't the hot sun, it's likely to be a blizzard for those you left behind. NZ looks nice and I enjoy getting the updates. Miss you. D

Nice Photos
Hi Becca! Sorry, it's taken super long to post anything to you! New Zealand looks great! The restaurant looks super cute! Dropping things is nothing. I was once weaving my way between tables, trying to take a pizza out to a table. Someone from one table was talking and flailing his arms to express his point; basically he hit me and corner of the pizza pan which sent the pizza flying onto the opposite table. I'm was really relieved that it didn't hit anyone!!! Things are going well here. We just got our first snow on Saturday. Before that we had a huge ice storm, which was so bad that we got a day off of work! My very first snow day!!! Luckily Kim & Chris taught me how to drive in winter weather. Anyway, I leave on Thursday for Christmas in Tucson! Merry Christmas!!! -Jewels
