. Everything is done by hand - no computers, etc. It's certainly going to be a challenge. I'm not sure that I am cut out for this sort of thing! I dropped the first plate of food that I brought to a table (just garlic bread, thank goodness) - just flew right off the plate. The rest of the night went a bit better, I just hope I get the hang of things! Otherwise, the weather has been fairly good, it's really hot today. The walk to work is pretty short, but there is a huge, steep hill on the way back. Mangonui is a really small town, there are a few hotels and a couple other restaurants. There are lots of fishing boats in the harbor. I have yet to check out the beach, but I am certainly looking forward to it. The sun is extremely hot here - a burn only takes about 5 to 10 minutes. I'll have to wear lots of sunblock!! I included some pictures, so I hope you enjoy. Miss you all so much!
Hi everyone! I am finally in Mangonui, which is in the far north section of New Zealand, and I have already had my first day of work. I am living in a 3 bedroom house with Emily and her mum, who both own the restaurant. Emily works half the year on Nantucket at the same Inn as my sister. Her mum is looking for a new place to live at the moment. I arrived here friday afternoon and spent most of my evening unpacking and getting settled. Saturday I walked around town for a bit and then had my first shift at work, where I helped set up for dinner. I then had a few hours to relax before the dinner shift started. Dinner seems to start a bit later here - most people didn't come in till about 8:00 p.m., and it seemed that the kitchen was closed by 9:30. It's a pretty small restaurant inside, with about 12 tables, and then 12 tables outside. The service area is very small, as is the kitchen. Here, as a waitress, you are responsible for seating, pouring all drinks, serving, cleaning up, resetting, etc
